FAIRVEIW CELLARS, is located in beautiful Oliver, BC., on the Reed Creek alluvial Fan at the North end of the Benches of the Golden Mile. Oliver was formerly known as the Township of Fairveiw. In the 1880’s Fairview was wild and well, as there was gold in them there hills.
Today, this fine stretch of land, is formally, legally referred to as “The Golden Mile”, which is now BCs first Sub Appellation, noting the greatness of the fruit grown on this vast alluvial fan.
Fairview Cellars is a dream come true for Bill Eggert, virtually a one man show: owner, farmer, winemaker, bottle washer – you name it, he’s done it. His wine making background started in his teens, working with his uncle in the vineyards in Southern Ontario. This experience encouraged Bill to focus on his viticulture studies and further dreams of owning his own winery.
Eventually, this young man moved out west and settled in BCs OK valley, further honing his farming skills. In 1989, Bill bought a 10 acre parcel of land located adjacent to the first hole at the Fairview Golf Course. His focus was solely on the classic Bordeaux varietals, Cabernet Sauvignon to be specific. He has a gift with the masculine varietals, somehow able to coax elegance and finesse in structure and balance of fruit and acid vintage after vintage. His first actual commercial release was in 1997, those wines still shine. The age of vines at the Oliver property spans from 10 – almost 30 years old. In 2007 he planted his first white Bordeaux varietal, Sauvignon Blanc – allowing him to make his very own “Oyster Wine”. Bill’s latest vineyard acquisition is Eagle’s Bluff, a lovely estate owned sight by Vaseux Lake in OK Falls where he explores his more feminine side with two plots of vines dedicated to our Crooked Post Pinot Noir.
While others all around Fairview are building modern tasting rooms, wineries with fancy amenities, Bill has invested 100’s of 1000’s of dollars into underground cellaring on sight. This will allow him to release his wines later, hold them back when nature dictates and create a rich library of verticals where we can all not only taste fine wines, but taste the evolution of his dream of making fines wines that can only develop with time.
Fairview has a lovely log cabin tasting room where you can taste some of BCs finest, most age worthy wines. Still sitting at about 3,000 cases total annual production, Bill Eggert’s Fairview Cellars is one BCs truest family owned and operated craft / boutique wineries.
