Anthony Buchanan considers wine on a unique aesthetic level. He appreciates all angles, nuances, and depths.
His love of wine began early in life and he became an Opimian Society member at 26. With his first taste of a Gevrey-Chambertin, Anthony was hooked on Pinot Noir.
He completed the oenology program at Washington State University and moved to the Okanagan. One of his first cellar jobs was at Blue Mountain Vineyards, one of the most celebrated Pinot Noir producers in B.C. His first job as wine maker in 2012 was at Eau Vivre Winery, where Pinot Noir has a celebrated history and Anthony’s pinots took many top honours
Anthony embraces winemaking techniques that are both traditional and progressive without being atavistic. He takes what the grapes give him and delicately shapes them into wine from vine to bottle with a gentle and effective hand. For Anthony Buchanan Wines, single vineyard sites are chosen for being sustainably farmed, well-tended, and managed with the same gentle hand as he uses to make his wines.
Anthony values Pinot Blanc and Pinot Noir wines that are elegant, delicious, and worthy of timelessness. He creates wines that are rich, expressive, and unique to each vineyard site. Without using a preconceived template, his gentle winemaking seeks to reveal the beauty of the land for the natural uniqueness that it is, without a trace of artifice.
